How to voice objection against Shell and CGG:

The Oceans Not Oil coalition has been inundated with calls, mails and messages of concerned citizens along the coastline of South Africa who are extremely worried about the effects of the Shell seismic survey which goes ahead on 1 December without having undergone a recent public participation process (an EMPr was done in 2013 and the world has become a whole lot warmer since then, see https://oceansnotoil.org/2021/11/11/shells-environmental-management-programme-documents/), and the CGG survey (The full report is available for download from:the SLR website (https://slrconsulting.com/public-documents/cgg-southeast-coast); and on a data free website (https://slrpublicdocs.datafree.co/public-documents/cgg-southeast-coast), which is accessible from an internet-capable mobile phone without data charges) which is presently undergoing an EMP – an environmental management plan and they are open for comments until 29 November 2021.
Whilst we iron out the legality of all of this may we suggest the following:
- Register as an interested and affected party for BOTH surveys . This can be done by emailing :
SLR Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd
Attention: Eloise Costandius
Email: ecostandius@slrconsulting.com
Tel: (021) 461 1118
WhatsApp / SMS: 063 900 5536
Insist on confirmation and chase up that you are now an Interested and Affected Person (I&AP) - Once you are registered, reply with your objection and be clear why this affects you and/or your community and/or the marine environment. This needs to be sent before the 29 November 2021.
- Sign the petition that will be sent to the minister for the environment, Barbara Creecy’s desk.
4. Boycott all Shell petrol stations and outlets in Southern Africa to make a clear consumer statement in the event this survey proceeds.
Go awaY, we are not interested! Take your equipment and leave our oceans alone. You have killed enough of the planet! Leave it alone now!

There are two ways to get Shell’s attention:- 1. For the demonstrations to take place outside of their garages 2. to stop buying Shell products
Keep up the great and inspiring work

We prefer that you make your own objection -becuase if we make one submission it is viewed as just that – 1 submission. Rather we prefer all supporters to register and make their own submission. That way the process takes longer and the amount of protest registers on the public record. please see https://oceansnotoil.org/2021/11/08/how-to-voice-objection-against-shell-and-cgg/
