Online action against TotalEnergies’ Mozambique LNG project: General Meeting Crédit Agricole

The Mozambique LNG project is a mega gas project, developed by TotalEnergies since 2019. This fossil gas extraction and import project is linked to serious human rights violations and allegations of crimes against civilians.

In recent months, several media investigations – PoliticoLe MondeSourceMaterial – have revealed a series of alleged abuses committed on the site of TotalEnergies’ Mozambique LNG project in 2021, by public security forces paid by TotalEnergies and claiming to be in charge of protecting its gas installations. In addition, a judicial investigation has just been opened in France against TotalEnergies for involuntary manslaughter and failure to provide assistance to a person in danger, following a criminal complaint filed by survivors and families of victims of the attack on Palma – Mozambique LNG’s neighboring town – committed by insurgent groups in March 2021.

Mozambique LNG is also one of TotalEnergies’ climate bombs: the industrial park is almost twice the size of Paris, and would produce between 3.3 and 4.5 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent. That’s more than the annual greenhouse gas emissions of all 27 countries in the European Union.

While the Mozambique LNG project has been on hold for over four years, TotalEnergies is looking to relaunch it imminently, and has announced a deadline of mid-2025. To do so, it needs the agreement of the project’s financiers, which include Crédit Agricole and Société Générale.

We want to make this project and this decision key issues for Crédit Agricole’s Annual General Meeting on the morning of May 14. That’s why we’re inviting you to join us in an online action to challenge the bank’s management and its brand-new director Olivier Gavalda: let’s confront them with these human rights violations and alleged crimes, and with the dilemma of their support for the relaunch of Mozambique LNG.

14 May 2025: Help us call out Crédit Agricole executives on the bank’s support for TotalEnergies’ destructive Mozambique LNG project, by tagging them massively under the posts.

TIME TO TAG
From 9:00 am CET on May 14. Crédit Agricole’s Annual General Meeting starts at 9:30 am and will probably last all morning.
⚠️ Société Générale’s Annual General Meeting will take place next week, on May 20 at 4pm.
