Oceans Not Oil commends WildOceans for its ‘Only This Much’ campaign, which will highlight the fact that scientists are recommending a 30% Marine Protection to buffer against manmade biosphere damage including climate change, DEA committed to 5% in 2016, but has yet to promulgate the 5%. Only 0.4% of our oceans is actually protected despite fisheries collapsing and oil and gas owning 98% rights to our marine commons. A Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) was never conducted for Operation Phakisa’s offshore oil and gas programme.
